Authenticator app

The authenticator app can be seen as an easy way to get started with two-factor authentication. All you need is your mobile phone or tablet with an authenticator app installed. You scan a QR code once, and the app generates new one-time codes (TOTP) every 30 seconds.

As with all other 2FA methods, it is advisable to use a second factor or recovery codes as a backup solution in case you lose one of your factors. However, authenticator codes have the added advantage that you can write down the 16-digit authenticator secret code or simply save the generated QR code and store it in a secure location (e.g. a password manager). This way, even switching to a new mobile phone is no problem.
