Using S/MIME in Apple Mail is straightforward.
Simply double-click the previously exported .p12 file (certificate file).
A dialog will open asking whether you want to add the file to the “Keychain".
Click “Add". The installation is now complete. After restarting Apple Mail, you can use S/MIME.
Test your configuration by sending yourself an encrypted email.
Enter your own S/MIME-enabled email address.
On the right side next to the signature selection, you will now see two new buttons:
The right button (gear icon) signs the email.
The left button (lock icon) encrypts it.
After sending yourself a signed and/or encrypted message, it will be displayed accordingly in your inbox once
received.
