POP3 and IMAP settings
POP3
POP3 (Post Office Protocol) is an Internet protocol that makes it possible to retrieve e-mails from a mail server. If there is a connection to the Internet, e-mails are retrieved, stored on the local workstation and usually deleted from the mail server. This is the typical process. In the meantime, most e-mail providers offer the option of leaving e-mails on the mail server.
IMAP
IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) is an Internet protocol that allows access to and management of e-mails. In contrast to POP3, the e-mails remain on the mail server using IMAP. This ensures that the current status, including the folder structure, is always displayed even when several e-mail service applications (clients) are used. Local storage of data is therefore superfluous and increases security against potentially dangerous e-mails, as they can be deleted directly on the mail server. When setting up a local e-mail client, such as Outlook or Thunderbird, we recommend setting up IMAP.
SMTP
SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is an Internet protocol and is used in particular for sending or forwarding e-mails.

Unable to Send Email (Telekom Speedport W724V)
The Telekom Speedport W724V router includes a menu option called "List of Secure Email Servers". This feature is designed to enhance your security and, among other things, helps prevent the sending of spam emails in case one of your devices or programs in the home network is infected with spyware or a trojan.
If you are using this router in your home network, sending emails is only possible through the providers listed in the secure email server list. Unfortunately, mail.de is not currently included in this list, but it will be added in one of the next updates. If you are currently unable to send emails using an external email client (such as Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, etc.) and you are using the Telekom Speedport W724V, you will need to manually add our SMTP outgoing mail server to the list of secure email servers in the router’s menu.
-
Open your browser and enter http://speedport.ip into the address bar
(Alternatively, you can also enter http://192.168.2.1 ).
Log in using the Speedport password.
-
At the top of the screen, click on the "Internet" menu (represented by a small globe icon).
On the left side, you'll see several menu options.
Click on "List of Secure Email Servers".
-
You will see a checkmark next to "Use list of secure email servers" — you do not need to remove it.
Click on the entry "List of allowed email servers", where all currently allowed email servers for sending will be shown.
-
Now, under "URL or IP address", you need to enter our SMTP outgoing mail server.
Click in the input field and enter: "smtp.mail.de"(without quotation marks).
Then confirm your entry by clicking the "Save" button.
You can now exit the Speedport menu, and sending emails using an external email client should work properly.
